今回は、私がロサンゼルスで運営する英会話スクールで働くネイティブ講師に、日常生活のなかでイライラすることは何か？英語で質問してみました。まさにロサンゼルスで暮らす人ならではの回答でしたね。（笑）

Drivers in Southern California drive me crazy. They don’t turn on their signal lights, they cut in front of you, there’s an accident on the 405, several accidents on the 405 every day. Stop-go traffic, I just hate it. That drives me crazy. Driving here drives me crazy.

南カリフォルニアのドライバーだね。ウインカーを使わないし車線にも割り込んでくる。405の高速道路は、毎日たくさん交通事故が起きてる。とにかく交通渋滞が大っ嫌いで本当にイライラすんだよね。このエリアの運転はイラつくね。

Well traffic drives me crazy every day. Uh pen clicking drives me crazy. Uh my room drives me crazy cuz (because) I don’t clean it. Finding lunch drives me crazy cuz (because) I never know what I want to eat.

毎日、渋滞にイライラさせられるわ。それとペンをカチカチ鳴らす人にもイラっとする。私は部屋を片付けないから、それもイライラするわね。お昼に何を食べたらいいのかわからないから、どこでランチを食べるのか決めるのにもイライラする。

People texting while they drive. There’s no excuse. Just focus on the road and drive.

運転しながら携帯メールをしている人。どんな状況であろうが、絶対にやってはいけない。ちゃんと運転に集中すること。

What drives me crazy? I would have to say bad drivers. People that don’t use signal lights, people that just cut in, um people that run stoplights or stop signs, just your overall bad drivers, especially slow drivers. We created slow lanes for a purpose and some people tend to stay in the fast lane and go slow which really is a pet peeve of mine.

何にイラってくるか？やっぱり運転が下手な人だね。ウインカーをつけない人、車線に割り込んでくる人、赤信号や一時停止の標識を無視して突っ走る人、とにかく全体的に運転が下手な人だね。運転が遅い人は特にだね。徐行用の車線があるのに、追い越し車線でのろのろ運転する人がいるんだよね。あれは本当にムカつく。

People that eat with their mouth open is one of them. People that are rude to the waitresses and waitstaff at a restaurant. That drives me crazy too.

1つは、口を開けたまま食べる人。レストランの店員に失礼な人も頭にくるね。

Mercedes

Well the thing that drives me really crazy is when I introduce myself to someone and I say “Hi. My name is Mercedes.” And they say “Oh like the car?” Uh no, like the Spanish name. I’m named after uh grandma or something like that who was also named Mercedes. It’s a very classic Spanish name. I’m not named after the car. It has nothing to do with the car.

「私の名前はメルセデスです」って自己紹介する時に、「車のメルセデスみたいな？」って言われることにイラっとするわ。車じゃなくてスペイン人の名前なの。おばあちゃんの名前もメルセデスで、そこから名付けられたんだと思う。車じゃなくて、スペインの代表的な名前だからなのよね。車とは一切関係ないわ。

People that don’t use their blinkers when they’re driving.

運転している時にウインカーをつけない人ね。

Bad driving. Poor handwriting. No manners when it comes to going to restaurants, like showing respect to the waiters. People who can’t wait in line properly. People who complain a lot and that’s about it.

運転が下手な人。字が汚い人。レストランでマナーが悪い人や店員に対して失礼な人。列に並ばない人。いつも文句を言う人。それくらいかな。

Driving. I’m sorry. Slow drivers. Um I just don’t. It irritates me. I’m like learn to drive, follow the rules. So probably driving is my thing that I get angry and I yell and I curse at people. So yeah, stay away from me if you don’t know how to drive. Um and then the tapping, when people do that. That’s about it. Besides that I’m normal.

車の運転。悪いけど、のろのろ運転する人は我慢できないし、イライラする。運転の仕方を覚えなさいよ、交通ルールを守りなさいよって言いたくなる。だから運転している時は、カッとなって暴言も吐く。運転が下手な人は私に近づかないで！あと、（机などを）指で軽くたたく人も無理。それくらいかな。それ以外はいたって普通よ。
